People who own watercraft love to take those vessels out on
the water, watching the waves disappear beneath them as they sail off into the
horizon. It's an experience that's impossible to achieve while on land, and
people who own these vessels may want to spend every single second of their
spare time out on the water as a result. It might frustrate these captains to
spend even one moment on land, but unfortunately, that's just what they must
do, says Joshua Kerrigan, if they want to ensure that their vessels will be
ready when they are.
Preventive maintenance is part of responsible ownership of
any watercraft, says Joshua Kerrigan. Vessel owners must perform periodic
checks of all of the equipment on their vessels, making sure it works exactly
as it should. They must also clean out delicate systems and keep all moving
parts adequately lubricated. Vessel owners must also replace some mechanical
systems on a regular basis, to ensure that normal wear-and-tear doesn't result
in a chain reaction of failure. All of these steps take time to complete,
Joshua Kerrigan says, and they may not be glamorous or fun things to do. But
those vessel owners who don't complete these tasks may experience failures
while out on the water, says Joshua Kerrigan, and that could be an incredibly
dangerous situation for any boat owner.
Those captains who don't want to handle these tasks, and who
would prefer to spend their time on the water instead of in the office of the
mechanic, should consider hiring a management company to handle preventive work
for them. Joshua Kerrigan's company, Yacht Management, does this work for many
clients in the Florida region, and he says it's a good option for those people
who simply aren't motivated to do the work on their own.
