Joshua Kerrigan on Hurricane Season in Florida

Florida is known for its pristine beaches, exotic wildlife and aquamarine-colored waters. For boaters, Florida seems to provide an unprecedented amount of recreational opportunities, although some people may worry about taking their vessels into Florida's waters when the summer and fall months arrive. For these cautious captains, Florida seems much too dangerous, due to the threat of hurricanes. Joshua Kerrigan, President of Yacht Management, wants to reassure these boaters that Florida really is safe, even with the threat of hurricanes on the horizon.

Hurricane season in Florida typically lasts from early June to late November, and it's a fact that Florida is hit by more storms than any other state in America. Each year, at least one major storm makes landfall in Florida. There are some upsides and downsides to these facts, Joshua Kerrigan says. On the downside, the chances that a family's boating plans might be hampered by storms in Florida is relatively high, especially during hurricane season. It's just the time of year for these storms to take place. On the upside, however, Florida is remarkably prepared for the storm season. Everyone who lives in Florida knows just what to do when a storm hits, and the state has a sophisticated warning system that alerts people to impending storms well in advance. As a result, the chances that a family will be surprised by a storm and have no idea what to do when that storm hits are relatively small.

Joshua Kerrigan reminds his marina clients that hurricane season can be dangerous, and he encourages all of his clients to learn more about hurricane preparedness, but he also reminds his clients that Florida is lovely in the summertime, and a few storms really shouldn’t cause them to miss out on what the state has to offer.
