Joshua Kerrigan on Obtaining New Marina Contracts

During his long career, Joshua Kerrigan has been involved with the management of a large number of marinas. He ensures that they're kept clean and up to current codes, and he also ensures that everyone who uses the marina is happy and willing to come back for another visit. It's challenging work, but it's work Joshua Kerrigan enjoys and work that he seems to be good at completing. Recently, he participated in a competition to obtain a new marina management contract, and as this story demonstrates, getting the work is sometimes harder than actually completing that work.

In order to obtain this new marina management contract, Joshua Kerrigan had to submit a formal proposal to the company's board of directors. Here, he had to detail just how he would design and manage the project, and why he felt his company would be able to handle the job better than any other company in the marketplace at that time. It was a detailed proposal that took several weeks to complete, and once the board had the information, yet more work was required. Joshua Kerrigan had to participate in over 30 meetings, as well as multiple conference calls, expanding upon his ideas and providing background on projects he'd completed in the past. Each time, Joshua Kerrigan felt as though he had performed well, drawing upon his extensive background to address any concerns the board might have.

Decision-making processes for projects like this can stretch on for months, Joshua Kerrigan says, as boards want to make sure that the people they choose are perfectly capable of handling the demands of the project. A slip could mean a loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars, so it's something no one takes lightly.
